In the penultimate collection, director Ryosuke Takahashi picks up some of the plot lines of this supernatural mecha series. The all-important "path of the kai" forgotten, Yoshiro insists on rescuing the psychic Miharu, who has been kidnapped by the combined forces of Symbol and the U.S. military. He attacks an American airbase in his SSDF mecha suit. Mutely awaiting her fate, Miharu experiences a series of flashbacks very similar to the ones Rei Ayanami undergoes in Evangelion. Meanwhile, the powerful Gowa family and Yoshiro's SSDF unit have joined the cabal organized by the jingoistic Nishida, who hopes to return Japan to an idealized past. By manipulating economic forces, Nishida plans to provoke the United States into staging a fake terrorist incident in Japan, then intervening militarily. After the events of September 11, some viewers may be uncomfortable with the terrorism story line. Rated 12+: Violence, tobacco use, brief nudity. --Charles Solomon

Best yet 5 by .. spejic (San Francisco, CA)
There aren't enough stars in all of Amazon to let me describe how much I liked these episodes. A fight of political powers to determine the shape of the world, in the setting of a disaster so believable and well presented it felt like it was ripped from tomorrow's headlines. The only problem I can think of is that sometimes there are so many subtitles you can't possibly read them in one watching - but this one DVD (and one series) that certainly need multiple watchings to fully appreciate.

Simply last year's best movie!!! 5 by .. Luis (Mexico)
This DVD is definitively the best I have ever bought. This movie is a whole experience. I have watched it over and over and every time I enjoy it even more.

Gasaraki is starting to slow a bit... 3 by .. Bjorn R. Buer (Northern California)
I have bought every single Gasaraki movie as it came out, feeling lucky to get 3 episodes per DVD and enjoying the mix of mech fighting and story. But lately Gasaraki hasn't been as much about Mech fighting, its been more about the story. Don't get me wrong, the Gasaraki storyline is awesome. I look forward to seeing what happens in the next episode every time. But as my friend put it, the story could all be put in one episode. There is really no reason for it to be extended to 10. If you've been following this series and this is just the latest installment, then buy it and love it. But if you have seen one or two of the DVD's and you want to see this one just cause, then rent or borrow it. There isn't anything on this DVD that you can't memorize from one sitting. If your looking for some real mech action, buy Macross Plus or Appleseed. And of course Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Pretty Animation, Dull Story 2 by .. ()
At first look Gasaraki looks very good in terms of mecha design and animation. Gasaraki is undoubtedly one of the best looking animes I have ever seen but the story is very uneventful. They try to mix up mythology with mecha (kind of like in Neon Genesis Evangelion), but the story is lacking. In the first couple of episodes in the series there are actually some decent action scenes, however as the story progresses all they do is just talk. It basically becomes some kind of political drama mixed with some not so original religious type story. It is just very slow and in my opinion VERY VERY boring. It just drags on and on about politics and that stupid kai thing. For people who are looking for action and good story this will not be for you as this mediocre anime is seriously lacking in both.
