The terrorist Gauron has commandeered the Mithril submarine De Danaan, but the telepathic bond between Commander Tess and Kaname enables them to regain control of the powerful vessel. Sousuke leads the counterattack against the brutal pirates with some assistance from Kurz and Mao, and the struggle inevitably ends in a man-to-man duel between Sousuke and Gauron. Director Koichi Chigira pulls out all the stops in their mecha knife fight, which is played against some impressive CG special effects, including torpedoes exploding underwater and the De Danaan breaching like a humpback whale. To no one's surprise, things end happily, with Kaname and Sousuke finally recognizing and accepting their mutual attraction. The second season of this lively comedy-adventure, Full Metal Panic Fumoffu, has already aired in Japan, and will probably be released in the U.S. soon.
