Caught in the Crossfire joins the long history of cheap, gritty cops-and-robbers flicks. Briggs (Chris Klein, Election, American Pie) and Shepherd (Adam Rodriguez, CSI: Miami) are on the trail of dirty cops, pointed that way by a snitch named Tino (rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson). Unfortunately, a confrontation leads to the death of everyone who might provide evidence--and Briggs and Shepherd find themselves suspects. One always hopes that a lack of resources will inspire imagination, but Caught in the Crossfire is pretty standard in every respect. There's a twist in the plot, but it only works by Hollywood logic; it upends our expectations but doesn't make much sense. Klein isn't very persuasive as a tough guy and Jackson isn't very persuasive as an actor; Rodriguez is livelier, but the dialogue hampers him. The action scenes are shot hand-held, jerky and confusingly edited. The look of the movie is successfully downbeat and aggressively urban, all shadowy blues and grainy grays. --Bret FetzerSimilarProduct
